Why this tour

The wreck is one of the easiest world-class dives anywhere: shore entry, no current most mornings, and the whole ship carpeted in coral. Adi’s job is the three-hour drive each way, so you arrive rested and go home asleep.

Hour by hour

  1. Hotel pickup

    Early to beat the traffic north-east. About 2.5 hours from Ubud, 3 from the south.

    → 150 min drive

  2. Partner dive centre, Tulamben

    Briefing, gear fitting. TODO(adi) name of the dive centre and certification levels accepted.

    → 5 min drive

  3. Dive 1 – USAT Liberty wreck

    Shore entry to the 120 m wreck, 5–30 m, usually calm. Bumphead parrotfish early morning.

    → 10 min drive

  4. Dive 2 – Coral Garden or Drop-off

    Second site chosen by the guide for conditions. Lunch at the dive centre between dives.

    → 30 min drive

  5. Amed coast

    Coffee stop at Jemeluk viewpoint before the drive back.

    → 150 min drive

  6. Back at your hotel

    Drop-off. Remember the no-fly window after diving.

What to bring

Do not touch the wreck or the coral. Tulamben is a marine protected area with local porters who carry tanks; tipping them is customary.

If it rains

Rain rarely affects visibility here; strong swell from the north-east (December to February) can. The dive centre decides on the morning; the fallback is Padang Bai or Amed's Japanese wreck.

Questions about this tour

I am not certified. Can I still come?

Yes. The dive centre offers a discover-scuba session on the wreck and non-divers snorkel over it from the shore. Ask Adi to arrange it.

What about the no-fly rule?

Do not book this tour within 18 hours of a flight. Adi will tell you if your dates do not work.
