Why this tour

The east of Bali is greener, emptier and closer to the old kingdoms. This is the day for the gate photo done properly, then two palaces where the crowds thin out and a long lunch under Mount Agung.

Hour by hour

  1. Hotel pickup

    Early departure to reach Lempuyang before the queue for the gate photo builds.

    → 120 min drive

  2. Pura Lempuyang Luhur

    Shuttle up to the lower temple and the famous gate with Mount Agung behind. Sarong included.

    Entrance Rp 100.000 pp→ 30 min drive

  3. Tirta Gangga water palace

    Stepping stones across the koi pools, fountains and shaded gardens of the last king of Karangasem.

    Entrance Rp 50.000 pp→ 25 min drive

  4. Taman Ujung water palace

    Bridges and pavilions by the sea. Usually quiet.

    Entrance Rp 75.000 pp→ 60 min drive

  5. Lunch in Sidemen

    Warung with a view of rice terraces and Agung. Optional short walk through the fields.

    → 90 min drive

  6. Back at your hotel

    Drop-off.

Lempuyang is a working temple. Follow the priests' instructions and keep the queue for the gate photo orderly.

If it rains

Clouds often hide Agung by mid-morning; the early start is deliberate. In heavy rain Adi swaps Lempuyang for Besakih or Goa Lawah.

How long is the queue at the Gates of Heaven?

At 7:30 usually under 30 minutes. By 10:00 it can be two hours. That is why this tour starts early.
